New Hope FWB added to RobTheDesigner.com

Despite designing it twice and updating the site almost weekly, I realized I’ve never posted my own church’s Web site design. Head over to RobTheDesigner.com and check it out in the Design section of my portfolio, or visit the site live at www.NewHopeFWB.com

I record the sermons each week using my MacBook and built-in iSight camera, process the video with iMovie and export a QuickTime file to Google Video, where they host the videos for free. This is a great way to

1) increase site visibility,

2) get the message out there to people who may not visit the church website, and

3) get free video hosting for a large amount of streaming files

(and free is always good for a church’s stewardship of money).

My wife Jennifer maintains the church calendar through Google as well, and since she’s a wizard of all things Google, she skillfully integrated the online church calendar into the Website for me. This keeps folks updated on upcoming meetings, nursery schedules, etc.

Here’s an illo i did recently for our church bulletin… The story where Jesus casts out the legion of demons into the swine. It was hard to think up a way to show the demons without freaking out the little kids in church, so i went with the “cloud of evil” approach… kind of The Neverending Story’s “nothing” meets Lemony Snicket…

Jennifer asked me to do an illustration for the cover of the church bulletin this last week. “Love your neighbor” sort of theme, with a dash of “Home Improvement” thrown in. She says we’ve been watching too much Nick At Night lately ;) Wilson came out well, but my Tim Allen leaves MUCH to be desired. ;)

So you may have noticed (assuming anyone actually reads this blog) that my posts here have been few and far between. I think it’s been months since I last did an Illustration Friday. But that’s because all my spare time over the past 12 weeks has been taken up creating cartoons for the children’s church that Jennifer and I teach. Here’s a sample of one of the cartoons I made.
