New Project: Tradeshow Banners

Here’s a quick project I’m working on this week for J&D Foods. They will have a presence at an upcoming tradeshow, so I’ve been tasked with designing two large vertical banners to sit on both sides of their booth.

I’ve used an old-school dithering trick I learned from Greg Hunt back at HLM (now HL2). It used to drive us crazy in the e-pro area when he’d create these dithers because they took so long to process and RIP, but now that computers are faster and printing is all digital it lends a great “natural” effect to vector layouts.

If anyone wants to know how to create it, I’ll be glad to share in an upcoming post. Just ask. For now, here are the banners:

PS: In case you’re wondering, that blue line was a guide on screen when i took a screenshot in Illustrator. I’m also going to reduce the size of “POP IT” and “DIP IT” so they’re more uniform to the neighboring banner…

The Samples have Arrived!

just got the samples from my recent packaging products from J&D Foods – check ‘em out! And keep an eye out at your local Kroger-owned grocery store, too!

According to their buyer, “This is the most innovative packaging I’ve seen in this category in decades. It could breathe new life into a dying category.”

For me the most exciting part of a design project is when I get to see it fully produced – then it’s so much more real than just an image on my computer screen.

J&D’s in the Press!

One of my favorite clients, J&D’s Foods, is all over the press lately, and it’s awesome for me to see my designs popping up (no pun intended) on blogs all over the internet.

Just this morning, I saw that the Mmmvelopes I designed for them are being featured on CNBC’s website. BaconPOP is featured on Uncrate.com and now Geekologie.com

The Bacathlon is going on right now!

Alas, when you’re down to one vehicle, you need to make choices. So I’m here at home while mass quantities of bacon flavored popcorn (www.BaconPop.com), bacon ranch dressing (www.TheBaconRanch.com) and bacon-flavored envelopes (www.mmmvelopes.com) are being discovered by the blessed masses of Seattle. But fear not, you still have at least an hour of insanity to experience if you leave now! Look at the poster and go support Ashley’s Team and the fight against childhood cancer!!! These guys have also done a write-up on Mmmvelopes! as well… I need to keep an eye on their site more often!
